La Tela Pizzeria, was purchased on April 29, 2014 by Johns Island resident David Robb.   The Rinaldi family, long time owners and founders of the Italian restaurant, have decided to transition ownership to pursue new adventures.  Robb is set to carry on the business and continue with the same La Tela name, recipes, and employees.

La Tela, which was founded in 2009, has become a favorite gathering place for visitors and locals alike.  Located in the Freshfields Village between Kiawah and Seabrook Islands, the restaurant is well-known for its Neapolitan style pizza, Italian cuisine, and fantastic wine list.   With an open kitchen that features an imported Italian wood-fired pizza oven and pasta machine, La Tela exudes a casual, friendly atmosphere.

David Robb believes the restaurant’s success has been a direct result of the focus on quality, farm fresh ingredients combined with the Rinaldi’s passion and hands-on ownership.  Robb intends to maintain this philosophy as the new owner.  “I’m very excited for the opportunity to build upon the great culture already established at La Tela”, Robb said.

A graduate of the Culinary Institute of Charleston, Robb has been working in the food service industry for the last 15 years.  Most recently he returned from Richmond, VA where he worked under Executive Chef Walter Bundy of Lemaire Restaurant located in the Jefferson Hotel.  Prior to that Robb was a Sales/Territory Manager with US Foods, Inc.  Over the course of his culinary career, David Robb has also cooked at many notable restaurants such as Noble’s in Greensboro, NC and High Cotton in Charleston.

La Tela Pizzeria is open 7 days a week from 11:00 am – 10:00 pm.   Take out and dine-in are welcome.  Outside patio seating is available.  Catering services are offered and can be tailored to your needs.

The Marble Slab Creamery experience starts when you enter one of our stores and are immediately greeted by the aroma of our freshly-baked waffle cones, available in a variety of flavors ranging from Vanilla Cinnamon to Dark Chocolate with Butterfinger®.

Then comes the moment of choice—discovering which one of our delicious, homemade, ice cream flavors is perfect for you. Will it be a traditional favorite such as Sweet Cream, Chocolate Swiss or Strawberry? Or perhaps a more unique flavor like Cheesecake, Chocolate Amaretto or Butter Pecan?

Once your desired flavor has been selected, the magic begins. We scoop the ice cream onto a frozen marble slab, where your choice of fruits, nuts and candies, known as Marble Slab Creamery "mixins," will be skillfully blended in with the ice cream, then finally piled high on the delectable waffle cone of your choosing. The result is your very own, one-of-a-kind dessert. From there, repeat as desired, which will probably be often.

With a chef-driven vision, we’ve made sure every batch of our super premium ice cream is created with loving care right in-store. We hand roll and bake our waffle cones on-site. For mixins, we offer some of the freshest fruits, the finest nuts, the sweetest candies and the most delicious cookies available. So whatever you order, you can be sure it’s fresh and filled with fabulous flavor.

As Richard explains, he loves the competition that comes from being in the restaurant business: “It’s like being on Broadway – every day you have to perform the same act to the very highest level. I want to be the number one show on Broadway that plays for the longest amount of time. I hope people will find that they always know what to expect at Hege’s – hospitality, value, great food, and great service. King Street Grille opened in Freshfields Village with other locations in downtown Charleston and Mount Pleasant. “Great Food, Great Beer, Great Atmosphere” is the mantra. King Street Grille is a full service restaurant with more than 60 menu items. It was voted best sports bar/ restaurant 7 years in a row. Far from the usual sports bar, the restaurant offers a great menu and wide beer selection, with TV’s everywhere. “There will not be a bad seat in the house for the big games and golf tournaments” says part-owner, Eric Frank. They also have a full line of hats and t-shirts available.

Opening at Freshfields Village made perfect sense to the partners, all avid golfers. They also love bringing a great sports bar and restaurant to Kiawah, Seabrook, and Johns Island.

The restaurant is owned by four partners: Eric Frank, Scott Kier, and Jason London.

Eric has been in the restaurant and cooking business for 18 years and has worked in New York and Baltimore. His friends and business associates eventually moved to Charleston eight years ago. They fell in love with the city because you are 20 minutes from the beach regardless of where you live, you see palm trees everywhere, and no more shoveling snow.

Scott Kier has worked up and the east coast at some of the best restaurants and bars. He started piecing the concept together about 10 years ago. " I wanted to create a concept where the guys can go and watch sports and their significant others will want to go because they love the food and atmosphere.  We strive to be more then your typical sports bar, we like to refer to it as a sports themed restaurant."

Jason London has over 20 years experience in the business. He spent 12 years with the Cheesecake Factory which includes new store openings in Chicago, Texas, Florida, and Washington D.C. Opening the restaurant at Freshfields Village was interesting because of the growth of the islands and the people. He enjoys cooking and eating out. Golf is a close second.

Wild Olive opened its doors in the heart of Charleston’s farming community in 2009. Striving to capture the cultural magic of true Italian dining, Wild Olive places the utmost value on simple, seasonal cuisine, paired with food friendly wines. Delivered by a service staff with a genuine warmth and enthusiasm, the restaurant’s energy is relaxed yet lively. While sourcing as much product locally as possible, the kitchen staff transforms the bounty of the lowcountry into artisanal variations of regional Italian classics. House-made pasta and house-cured salumi are focal points for Chef Larson and his team.In 2013, Wild Olive became the first Certified Green Restaurant in South Carolina. In its continual commitment to operate an environmentally conscious business, Wild Olive not only purchases the bulk of their product locally, but also recycles and composts 85% of their waste. In essence, the restaurant is not only farm to table, but table to farm. We compost 1,000 pounds of raw material each week. The strict adherence to the Green Restaurant Association guidelines has been a welcomed evolution to the identity of Wild Olive and its heartfelt responsibility to promote sustainable practices.
